The Scenario: “Optimal performance”

The business

Pinda Lodge is hosted and owned by Linda and Pierre Every and is located in the Margaret River region of the South West of Western Australia. It is a four and a half star RAC rated luxury 4 unit bed & breakfast accommodation.

The Prelude

Pinda Lodge was established in 2000 and fully operational in 2001. Pierre and Linda had established a web presence early on through a web developer, however Pierre was become frustrated, continually spending money on upgrades and changes to keep the site up to date. They were also eager to learn if they were heading in the right direction with their web strategy or could they improve the performance of their online investment.

The advice
When I first visited Pierre and Linda It was like they had stumbled over an oasis after trekking through a desert. I dealt with the volume of questions and issues over a number of visits, stepping Pierre through the tasks he could comfortably complete and referring him on to formal training where necessary.

One of the main areas Pierre and Linda wanted to address was to better market their business online. Once Pierre was skilled enough to make changes to their web site I followed up with a list of optimisation techniques that Pierre should try and implement within the web site.


Hurdles
Time was the only hurdle I perceived, the time required for Pierre to up skill to the point of being in charge of his own online destiny.

Results

An increase in revenue of 65% in the first year of the web site with 30% and 40% increases in subsequent years attributed to Pierre’s optimisation and maintenance of the web site. The other successful result was a reduction in costs for regular maintenance and upgrades with the last bill being over $600.
