The Four Aces

King Jarrah Heritage Trail

This 650 metre walk takes you to a Jarrah tree which is thought to be over 600 years old.  It is 47 metres in height and 2.69 metres in diameter at chest height.  This walk is interesting at any time of the year but particularly in Spring when there is a magnificent wildflower display.

The Four Aces
Four magnificent Karri trees are the sole survivors of a 10,000 strong forest.  Each one is over 220 metres high.
A placard near the trees announces “Welcome to the Karri forest. Walk the Karri Glade Path a 15 minute easy grade loop. Karri is one of the largest living things on our planet. One tree can weigh over 200 tonnes, grow to 90 m in height, use 170 litres of water a day, produce 1 kg of honey per season, take nine people holding hands to span its girth, and do it all in 400 years.”  All of this does not account for the awe-inspiring feeling gazing at these trees gives.

Quinninup Walks

King Karri Walk

The 4.2 km King Karri Walk takes you through huge ancient karri forest with under storey liane (creepers) including the white clematis, blue hardenbergia and red coral vine all of which  flower in spring. Winter is a great time to discover the many families of macro-fungi which are found around Quinninup.  Allow about 2 hours for this walk.

Orchid Walk - 1.8km (1+ hour)

The 1.9km Orchid Walk showcases many of the 40 orchid species found around Quinninup. Traversing part of the ancient palaeozoic (400 million years) water drainage system which transects the Quinninup area the Walk features many gondwanan flora species such as banksia, hakea, grevillea, adenanthos and dryandra.

Many colourful flora species are confined along this walk and are significantly different from the adjoining forest understorey.

Allow just over one hour for this walk.

Ridgeback Walk - 5km (3+ hours)

The 5 km  Ridgeback Walk takes you to an elevation of l8Om, with a magnificent view over the forest and Quinninup.  This is a bird lover’s paradise in Spring and Winter with many wrens, robins, finches, fantails, wagtails and silvereyes living in the dense undergrowth. Spring also brings a huge variety of wildflowers creating a colourful vista.
