Collie Lifestyle Attractions

Collie, with its rich history, diverse activities, attractive surroundings and great community spirit, is a town which has a lot to offer both the visitor and the local resident.

The proud community spirit is evidenced by the loving restoration to places like the Old Goods Shed and the faithful replica of the Station.  Collie also boasts wide streets, some well laid out parks and public gardens with tourist facilities well catered for.

Surrounding Collie is some of the best scenery anyone is likely to encounter with soaring forests, sparkling waterways, scenic trails and picturesque farmland.

The town is well catered for with shopping and facilities and there is an active social life with sporting clubs in abundance.

Wellington Dam

The Wellington Dam is set in an area of picturesque beauty with thick stands of Jarrah and offers a variety of activities from camping, bushwalking, picnicking, swimming to canoeing and white water rafting.

There are gas barbeques at the Quarry picnic site (near the Dam wall) and at Potter’s Gorge (2km north of the Dam wall).  A lookout provides incredible views of the river and the valley.

Camping facilities are sited in Jarrah and Marri forest at Honeymoon Pool or Potter’s Gorge with barbeques and picnic facilities.

Non power boat launching facilities are available at Potter’s Gorge where there is also safe swimming for children.

This popular spot is further enhanced when the Dam overflows but is a photographer’s paradise at any time of the year.

Harris Dam

Harris Dam was opened in 1990 and, as it is a water catchment area, swimming, camping and fishing are not allowed.  However the area provides a great venue for family outings, with gas barbeques, picnic tables, good pathways, toilets and disabled facilities.  An added bonus is the birdlife with enchanting Blue Fairy Wrens and Honey Eaters, amongst others, in abundance.

The Bibbulum Track passes the Dam and a short walk of approximately 9 kms can be taken over the boardwalk to the hikers hut and back again.
