Set in picturesque gardens of Snell Park Harvey, the Festival offers a feast for the senses this year with arts, culture, food, wine, markets and a mixture of musical talents and styles main stage. At 9:30am, local artist John Spencer will take centre stage to demonstrate the art of painting. Recently John has been recognized for his talent, rewarded with his own TV show on Perth’s Channel 31. Local south west jazz band SWAY will open the festival just after 10am specialising in a mix of swing and jazz in the rat pack tradition. Sway will be looking to create some ambiance and set the mood while visitors sit back to indulge in tasting the regions wine and produce. After lunch, Italy’s favourite Reno Brothers will take centre stage. Front men Joseph and Fernando Civitella migrated to Australia from Italy and have been entertaining audiences world-wide for 19 years with their authentic sound.
Throughout the day in the gardens, Mathew Ingram of Bohemian Woodcraft of Bridgetown will be performing woodworking demonstrations of the Pole Lathe and Shaving Horse. This free demonstration is the only one of its kind in WA, and is an awe inspiring insight into how wood turners worked before the use of electricity. His hand made tools are used to make solid timber Windsor Chairs which are what he calls the “Antiques of the future.” The Festival will also feature some of the Southwest’s most prized market stalls, ranging from hand-made home wares to local olives, jams and chutneys. Food lovers can expect a treat with plenty of lunch options including Italian cuisine, bbq seafood and much more. Wine tasting at the festival is free, featuring the best of the regions wines including Vineyard 28 who recently won the 2006 Scoop Magazine Award for ‘Best Geograph Wine’ for their Nebbiolo 2004 Red. Pemberton’s Jarrah Jacks Brewery will also feature a variety of products for tasting on the day. Entry on festival day is free, Festival Coordinator Carly Jabs said “The Committee has decided against introducing an entry fee again this year ensuring the Harvey Harvest Festival continues to be an exciting and enjoyable day out for the entire family.” Parking in some areas of Harvey will cost $2 which will go towards Harvey Main Streets community projects. Kids can expect a variety of fun activities including a farmyard petting zoo, face-painting, rides, amusements and street theatre entertainment. For those traveling from Bunbury & Busselton, the Festival will provide a free return trip bus service to these districts. Space is limited.
