Bush Poets Competition

Once again the Val Lishman Health Research Foundation will be putting the talents of the regions Bush Poets on display.  This is a family event for young and old.  The coverted “Tin Billie Trophy” is up for grabs, all those who are prepared to wax lyrical are eligible to win!  There is also a special competition for our younger poets – with specific sections for school students.  Pick your topic, put pen to paper, and get ready to perform your ballad or recitation.  If you would like to be in the running to become the Bush Poet of the year you must register by 14th March on our entry form.  They are available from our Chairman Neil Foall on 0407315091 or on our website http://vlhrf.mysouthwest.com.au

This year we are very fortunate to be able to showcase the wonderful wines of the Ferguson Valley, through the generosity of the Ferguson Valley vineyards “putting their wine where their mouth is” by donating wine to the Foundation for the occasion.  Here's your chance to sample the fruits of the lush Ferguson in the heart of Ferguson country at the Dardy Tavern.  Merve Hart the Chairman of the Local Tourism committee said “ The Ferguson Valley has so much to offer the people of Bunbury - all just 20 minutes away - with its restaurants, wineries, attractions and accommodation all set in beautiful scenery, and is honoured to support such an important institution as the Val Lishman Foundation”

The day will be held at the Dardanup tavern, in their garden setting- perfect for families, on Sunday 26th March from noon, light meals will be available.  Families will be entertained by the Bushies recitations, and have the opportunity to bid in the auction, and participate in the raffles.  The booklet containing poems from last years competition will be on sale.  Admission is $20 for a family of up to 4, with single admission $10.  Competitors gain free entry.  The ABC's Genine Unsworth will lead proceedings, introducing our fantastic Bushies to present their tales of woe and triumph.  Be prepared to be touched, amused, and even shocked as the regions Bushies involve you in their lives.

The Val Lishman Health Research Foundation promotes health research across the Region, and all proceeds from the day will be going to the Foundation to continue its work.  The Foundation has several projects running including Enhancing Cancer Treatment Outcomes, International Clinical Cancer Trials, Youth Suicide, Young Carers,  and The Aging Workforce.  We have just completed research in conjunction with Local Goivernment Authorities regarding Ross River Virus.

By being a competitor or just bringing your family to the day you have a chance of making a contibution to this vital community health research.
